2012 is coming to an end. In 20 minutes, 2013 will be here and with it a new opportunity to not meet the goals I set for myself. But that isn't going to stop me from setting them. So here they are...my goals for 2013 (most of which will hopefully lead to me having more fun...though my kind of fun isn't always the same as anyone else's).
1. Read 150 books. This is a carry over from 2012. I failed to make that goal this year (only read 106), but I seriously don't think it is out of the realm of possibility for me. In 2011, I read 131 so I think 150 is doable. As part of that 150 books, I will be trying to read several complete series of books. I have done this for the last two years as well starting with Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series (20 books) in 2011 and Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series (19 books) in 2012. While trying to decide what series I was going to read this year, I had a hard time coming up with another series that ran around 20 books. So since I only mildly enjoyed the last two series I read, I decided to do several shorter, but higher quality series this year. So this year I will be reading:
~ George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series - 5 books currently
~ Ian Fleming's James Bond books - 14 books and some short stories
~ Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes books - 4 books and a ton of short stories
If I decide to get really crazy with the series, I might try to read Sue Grafton's Kinsey Millhone series which currently has 22 books. As side goals, I would like to read at least one book a month that is currently residing on my bookshelf.
2. Have $1000 in my savings account on 12/31/2013. I had a similar (if not the exact same) goal in 2012. I did manage to have that much money in my savings accounts on 2 separate occasions, but then I would use it to go on vacation. This year I'd still like to go on vacation, but I'd also like have that $1000 saved.
3. I would like to up my professional/college sports live viewing. I love football and baseball, watching both on TV religiously, but I haven't been to a professional baseball game in years, went to only my first college football game this year and have never been to a professional football game. So I'd like to see at least 1 baseball game (Go White Sox!), one pro football game (Go Lions!) and 2 college games, maybe one of those being in Baton Rouge (hint, hint), but I'll settle for 2 at the Big House.
4. I hate setting weight loss goals, but this year I'm going to. I did a great job of losing and keeping off about 15 pounds through regular use of the gym and paying attention to what I put in my mouth. I'd like to try for another 15. Not sure if it will happen, but I'd like to try.
5. Lastly, I'd like to get out more. I'm very much a homebody, but I've found that it is a bit hard to maintain friendships when I'm so content on my couch. So I'm aiming to spend at least two nights a month out with friends. I know that doesn't sound like much, but it is definitely a step up from what I've been doing. Ideally, I'll spend those nights out with friends catching some great live music. I'm starting in January by attending a Grace Potter & the Nocturnals concert with a friend.
Yeah, I think that's a good list. Nothing life changing or too difficult. Basically, they're goals for a lazy slug like me. :)
Oh yeah....I'd like to add one more.
6. Vacations - I'd like to go on at least 2. One will be a trip back to New Orleans for my birthday in June. Not sure where the 2nd will be. And I'd like to talk at least 2 friends from out of state to visit Michigan. We'll see how that goes...people seem to think Grand Rapids and Michigan in general have nothing to offer. They're wrong.
