It's been months since I last posted anything. Since April to be exact. And I can't apologize for that. There have definitely been times when I thought about dropping a thought or two on the 3 people who actually read this, but well, in all honesty, I just haven't had the time.
See, the purpose of my creating this blog was to force myself to get a life (and hopefully document that life) and well, I found myself with a great life this year. It was busy, full of excitement and a lot of firsts. But because the year is winding down and I'm starting to miss this year (though definitely looking forward to next) I figured I'd fill you in on a little of the excitement....in the form of my Top 5 (or Top 5s as there will be more than one list). So over the course of the afternoon I'll be spilling my guts about the best things that happened to me this year. And believe me when I say I REALLY had to work to pare the lists down to 5! It really has been a great year.
But first...a look at this years resolutions and how well I did at meeting them:
http://adventuresinninevah.blogspot.com/2013/01/2013a-year-for-fun.html (as a little reminder)
1. 150 books...yeah, not going to happen. I'm currently sitting at 127 for the year, but could potentially reach 130 before the actual end of the year. As for the series I picked to read this year...I didn't finish any of them. I made it about half way through the Ian Fleming Bond books, got through the first 2 Martin books and only managed to reread The Study in Scarlet when it comes to Sherlock Holmes. And as for reading books on my own shelf...I read 10. Not quite making the goal of at least one a month. So I guess I failed that challenge I set forth for myself, but well, hard to see reading 127 books a failure as most people are lucky to finish one book a year these days. New goals are being worked out now so look for the goals for next year in the next couple of days.
2. $1000 in my savings account...well, no. I would have been very close if not there if it weren't for some unexpected, costly bills that arose in the last couple months putting my savings account back down to nearly nothing.
3. Live sports viewing...came close on this one. I made it to one professional baseball game and one college game. I suppose it isn't too late to make it to a Lions game as they have one more this season (tomorrow) and MI is playing their last football game of the season tonight, but well, it would take a very large miracle to make it to either of those games so yeah, another fail.
4. Weight loss...hell if I know. I haven't been on a scale in months. But I'm fairly certain I at least kept off the 15 pounds of last year and my clothes are starting to fit loose again so maybe I've dropped a few more. I can't seem to find myself caring much.
5. Get out more...yep, did that! Woohoo!! I succeeded in something!
6. Vacations...well, I didn't make it back to New Orleans and I didn't get out of state friends to visit me in GR, but I did do a long weekend in Wisconsin visiting my wonderful college roommate and her family as well as a weekend in Detroit (my first time there...weird since I've lived in MI almost my whole life) and a very fast trip to Pennsylvania.
So, overall, I kind of sucked at meeting my exact goals, but I at least managed to come close and/or attempt all of them. None of them were abandoned early in the year or all out failures. I guess that's something.
And now I'm off to write my Top 5 lists!
