Of course I'm starting with books!

Books...everyone knows they're my drug of choice. Nothing makes my day better than just being surrounded by them. The library and my local bookstore are two of my favorite places to be. Books calm me when nothing else can. Books make me happy when all else fails. I constantly have at least one book with me at all times. They are in stacks in every room of my house. Even my roommate's have to share space with my books as they are also residing in their bedrooms. A crazy concept to a lot of people, but books are my friends. So it shouldn't be a shock that my first top 5 list is all about books. I'm hoping to keep this one list, but who knows...the one list just might spawn sublists. I'm keeping the option open.

So without further ado...my Top 5 favorite reads of 2013 (in a completely random order because I couldn't actually rank them):

No Apologies Here

It's been months since I last posted anything. Since April to be exact. And I can't apologize for that. There have definitely been times when I thought about dropping a thought or two on the 3 people who actually read this, but well, in all honesty, I just haven't had the time.

See, the purpose of my creating this blog was to force myself to get a life (and hopefully document that life) and well, I found myself with a great life this year. It was busy, full of excitement and a lot of firsts. But because the year is winding down and I'm starting to miss this year (though definitely looking forward to next) I figured I'd fill you in on a little of the excitement....in the form of my Top 5 (or Top 5s as there will be more than one list). So over the course of the afternoon I'll be spilling my guts about the best things that happened to me this year. And believe me when I say I REALLY had to work to pare the lists down to 5! It really has been a great year.

The joys of staycations

It is easy to forget the joys of your town when you're surrounded by them all the time.  I live in a great place.  Grand Rapids has a lot to offer a person when you don't let normal life cause you to forget all about it.  As I was on a forced vacation (no, I wasn't in trouble.  The family I work for was out of town), I spend the last couple of days walking my city trying to see it as a tourist instead of a resident.  Now, I didn't go anywhere I've never been before, but I did go to the places I went to complete immerse myself in them and enjoy them like I never have before.

January book review

The first month of 2013 has come to an end...already.  Is it just me or does time seem to be flying?  I can't believe it is February already.  Other than reading a whole lot of books and buying just as many, I haven't really accomplished much.  But since I've decided to read 150 books this year, reading a whole lot of books is a good thing.  And I must say, I've really enjoyed what I've read this month.  Here's a rundown:

2013...a year for fun?

2012 is coming to an end.  In 20 minutes, 2013 will be here and with it a new opportunity to not meet the goals I set for myself. But that isn't going to stop me from setting them.  So here they are...my goals for 2013 (most of which will hopefully lead to me having more fun...though my kind of fun isn't always the same as anyone else's).
